Vision Airlines Puts Passengers on Cloud Nine With $19 Seat Sale on Flights to and From Destin/Fort Walton Beach

/PRNewswire/ -- Starting at midnight, Sunday, March 20, 2011, just in time for spring break vacation and to celebrate the start of its new service, Vision Airlines launches an introductory $19* one-way seat sale on the carrier's flights to and from cities in 11 states to NW Florida Regional Airport. It serves the Destin/Fort Walton Beach area, which is also known as Florida's Emerald Coast. The Destin/Ft. Walton Beach area is among America's top-10 spring break vacation destinations. Orlando, with its theme parks, is the nation's number one family spring break spot.

Vision Airlines offers service to the Orlando/Sanford International Airport from multiple cities.

Vision Airlines' specially-priced, limited $19* fares are also available on flights from NW Florida Regional to Orlando/Sanford International Airport; Punta Gorda/Fort Myers Airport and St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport.

The $19* fares apply to flights that take-off the morning of March 25, 2011 through May 21, 2011. There is a limited number of $19* seats on each flight. The sale ends on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 11:59 PM (ET).

Inaugural Flights Launch

Between March 25 and April 1, 2011, Vision Airlines begins new service to the following cities: Atlanta GA, Baton Rouge LA, Destin/Ft. Walton Beach FL, Ft. Lauderdale FL, Ft. Myers/Punta Gorda FL, Greenville SC, Huntsville AL, Knoxville TN, Louisville KY, Savannah/Hilton Head, and St. Pete/Tampa FL.

Beginning April 1, 2011, Vision Airlines launches service to Asheville NC, Chattanooga TN, Columbia SC, Little Rock AR, Orlando/Sanford FL, Shreveport LA.

Vision Airlines is currently flying scheduled service to Atlanta, Destin/Ft. Walton Beach, Houston, St. Petersburg, Louisville, Gulfport, Miami and Niagara/Buffalo. More routes will be added on or after March 25th 2011.

Tickets and complete vacation packages are now on sale at www.VisionAirlines.com; or through the airline's reservations call center at 1-877-FLY-A-JET.

FLYING IS LESS EXPENSIVE THAN DRIVING TO FLORIDA

For decades people living in Vision Airlines' focus cities have been vacationing and retiring along the Emerald Coast. "Because there has never been affordable air travel to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, families have had to endure grueling drives to get to Florida's gulf coast says," COO, David Meers. "That all changes with the launch of our inaugural Florida flights."

Meers emphasizes, "With gas prices creeping closer to $4 per gallon in many states, flying Vision Airlines to Florida is now less expensive than driving, especially since we are offering fares as low as $19*"

On average, Vision Airlines' normal one-way fares to Florida are $89 - $99.

REVITALIZE EMERALD COAST ECONOMY

Vision Airlines is expected to play a pivotal role in revitalizing Florida's Emerald Coast tourism industry as the economy was crippled by last year's Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Florida Governor Rick Scott forecasts that Vision Airlines will generate approximately 4,000 new jobs and will help fill the area's tens of thousands of hotel rooms, many of which remained vacant during the 2010 tourist season, due to the oil spill.

"While there were some tar balls on the Emerald Coast's beaches, there were no off-shore oil slicks," says Mark Bellinger, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Emerald Coast Convention and Visitors' Bureau. "Despite limited environmental impact, tourists avoided the gulf coast altogether in 2010."

The Governor and local tourism officials encourage tourists to see for themselves that Florida's Emerald Coast beaches are still sugary-white and the water is still crystal clear.

Bonjour! Hola! Guten Tag! International Cities Make Strong Comeback On Priceline List Of Top 50 Labor Day Destinations

T2F Note: We just love Atlanta made the top 50 list. We just happen to agree-- Atlanta is a great city in which to have fun whether it is the museums, theatre, or sporting activities you crave!

Who could forget our favorite Georgia city by the sea? Savannah is always a treat for the historical eye. The Fayette Front Page Day Tripper Award this week goes to both Atlanta and Savannah for Labor Day fun.

(BUSINESS WIRE)--A year ago, no international cities, save for a handful in Canada, appeared on priceline.com’s (Nasdaq: PCLN) annual list of the 50 most popular destinations for the Labor Day holiday. What a difference a year makes. In 2009, no fewer than 11 international destinations, including London, Rome, Berlin, Barcelona and Paris, made priceline.com’s 7th annual Labor Day list.

The list is based on more than 30,000 hotel room booking requests made on priceline.com’s Name Your Own Price® hotel service for the holiday. Because the survey is based on actual booking requests, and not on consumer preference polls or votes, priceline.com believes its annual survey is one of the more accurate predictors of Labor Day travel trends.

Priceline.com also said it still has plenty of last-minute airline tickets, hotel rooms, rental cars, vacation packages, tours and attractions, and cruises available for Labor Day getaways. A sampling of deals is included below. All quoted deals were being offered today on priceline.com’s PriceBreakers last-minute deals service. Hotel-only deals are offered on a Name Your Own Price® basis. Availability is subject to change at any time.

* U.S. and Hawaii flights from $88. http://pcln.com/h0y5
* Labor Day one-night hotel specials – New York, Seattle & San Francisco from $79 a night. http://pcln.com/h8fv
* 3.5 star Boston hotels from $109 a night. http://pcln.com/h8f1
* 3 star Las Vegas hotels from $79 a night. http://pcln.com/h8fl
* 3-night flight-plus-hotel Las Vegas vacation packages from $132 a night. http://pcln.com/h8g5
* 3-night New York City vacation package. Flight plus accommodations at the Waldorf Astoria from $327 a night. http://pcln.com/h8gp
* 3-night flight-plus-hotel vacation packages to San Diego from $302 a night. http://pcln.com/h8gz
* Up to 20% off on weekend rentals with Hertz. http://pcln.com/h8h9

Visit www.priceline.com/pricebreakers for a full list of Labor Day specials.

“International destinations are quite appealing this year,” said priceline.com’s in-house travel expert and blogger Brian Ek. “Airfares are very reasonable and the dollar vs. euro exchange rate, which was as high as $1.60 last summer, is now down to a more manageable $1.43. In the U.S., major cities that may have lost convention and business travelers are offering spectacular hotel deals to lure leisure travelers for the fall.”

For the second year in a row, New York City’s Times Square/Theater District and Chelsea Area took the top two spots on the list. However, the Big Apple’s Labor Day popularity appears to have slipped a bit. After taking 11 spots last year, New York City area neighborhoods were selected eight times in 2009.

Big cities and their downtown areas, brimming with restaurants, theaters and back-to-school bargains, are popular destinations for this Labor Day. Beach attendance, which was lighter than normal last year due to late summer storms, was up again this year, led by Hawaii, San Diego, Key West, Virginia Beach and Atlantic City/Cape May.

Ohio Getaways That Soar To Great Heights

(NAPSI)-Americans are celebrating the 40th anniversary of one of the great achievements of our time: astronaut Neil Armstrong taking his legendary first steps on the moon.

The occasion has moved many people to take a trip of their own to some of the nation's top aviation hotspots. Here's a look at some popular destinations:

Birthplace Of Aviation

Those interested in exploring the historical roots of aviation have plenty of options in the hometown of Wilbur and Orville Wright. The Wright brothers, who are credited with the first successful airplane flight, grew up in Dayton, Ohio. The city is now home to the Wright B Flyer Hangar at the Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport. There, visitors can take a ride in a replica of the Wright B Flyer, which seats two and cruises up to 100 miles per hour.

If you prefer to keep your feet on solid ground, check out the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, home to the Wright Cycle Company. The park also includes Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center, containing photos and other displays chronicling the lives of the Wright brothers and another Dayton native, writer Paul Laurence Dunbar.

There's also the Huffman Prairie Flying Field and the adjacent Interpretive Center, also in Dayton. The field is the site where the Wright Brothers perfected the world's first practical airplane and opened the Wright School of Aviation. The Interpretive Center contains additional exhibits that tell the visual tale of the Wright brothers' flight trials.

Fly Me To The Moon

With Ohio being home to Neil Armstrong, John Glenn and more than 20 other astronauts, the state is well versed in space travel. Located in Armstrong's hometown of Wapakoneta, an hour north of Dayton, the Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum celebrates the sights and sounds of man's first steps on the moon with the F5D Skylancer and the Gemini VIII spacecraft on display, as well as a moon rock and other Apollo 11 artifacts.

Inside NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, the 6,000-square-foot Visitor Center offers interactive exhibits, including a flight simulator and a launch control center where visitors can conduct microgravity experiments or count down to a simulated rocket launch.

Approximately 60 miles from Cleveland in Warren, Ohio, space enthusiasts can visit the spot where Armstrong boarded his first airplane in 1936-at the age of 6-at the former site of the Warren Airways Airport. The site now boasts a half-scale replica of Apollo 11's lunar landing module sitting on cratered concrete resembling the moon's surface.

History Buffs

The International Women's Air & Space Museum in Cleveland chronicles the lives of women ranging from Connie Wolf, a 19th century balloonist, to legendary aviator Amelia Earhart to astronaut Valentina Tereshkova of the former Soviet Union, the first woman to orbit the Earth.

The largest and oldest museum of its kind worldwide, the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton showcases military aviation history with more than 400 aircraft and aerospace vehicles on display. Key exhibits include past Air Force One aircrafts in the presidential gallery.

An hour south of Dayton is the Tri-State Warbird Museum, a 20,000-square-foot facility dedicated to preserving, restoring and operating World War II military aircraft. The museum's operational aircraft inventory includes the Grumman TBM-3 Avenger, which played a major role in the sinking of more than 60 Japanese ships after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Aviation Events

In addition to Ohio's permanent aviation attractions, the state offers aviation events such as the Vectren Dayton Air Show, Cleveland National Air Show and World War I Dawn Patrol Rendezvous.

Carnival Cruise Lines to Resume Port Calls in Mexico

/PRNewswire / -- Carnival Cruise Lines will resume visits to Mexican ports of call based on the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, which is no longer recommending against non-essential travel to Mexico. Once all voyages with previously modified itineraries are completed, those vessels will revert to their original routes featuring stops in Mexico. Most itineraries were modified through mid-June with the exception of the Holiday which was modified through late May. A ship-by-ship listing including dates for when each vessel will resume its original itinerary is available at http://www.carnival.com/cms/fun/cruise_control/itinerary_updates.aspx.

"We are very pleased to resume our previous itineraries to Mexico, one of the cruise industry's most popular destinations, and we thank those guests who were impacted by the modified schedules in recent weeks for their understanding and patience," said Gerry Cahill, president and CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines.

Cahill added, "The health and well being of our guests and crew is our highest priority and we are returning to Mexico after careful evaluation and consultation with the CDC. It is important to note that the concentration of H1N1 flu cases in Mexico has been inland rather than in the coastal resort areas where our ships visit."

Cahill also noted that the cruise industry works closely with U.S. public health officials in the CDC's Vessel Sanitation Program in developing and complying with extensive policies and procedures that are effective in mitigating illness aboard cruise ships. Carnival will continue to follow CDC guidelines for cruise ships which include pre-boarding health questionnaires for all guests and crew, along with secondary screening by shipboard medical professionals as necessary. Additionally, all Carnival ships stock influenza test kits and anti-viral medications for treating type A influenzas.

"Mexico has so many wonderful sites and attractions and feedback from our customers suggests that the majority support a resumption of port calls in Mexico. We know that they and our port destination partners are very much looking forward to our return," he added.

Hotwire Reveals Top Winter Wonderland Getaway Deals

/PRNewswire/ -- Hotwire.com(R), a leading discount travel site, today announced a blizzard of fantastic last minute holiday deals to popular cold weather destinations that are bound to make price-savvy travelers hearts sing with glee for the holidays. From rarely before seen hotel deals in cities like New York and Chicago to popular ski destinations in Colorado that won't freeze your wallet, Hotwire(R) has seen an uptick in room availability at cold weather destinations due to the economic slowdown.

During the winter months, the travel industry experiences a seasonal downturn in travel bookings. Hotwire helps major hotel suppliers fill empty rooms that would otherwise go unsold, which combined with the economic slowdown means deeply discounted room rates in some of the country's most popular destinations. For consumers looking for a quick, exciting and affordable winter get away, Hotwire offers an abundance of hotel options.

There's no better place to take in holiday lights and festivities than New York City. For those that think visiting New York over the holidays means breaking the bank, Hotwire is pleased to show them otherwise. Hotwire has seen a boom in room availability in New York City this holiday season. With unheard of discounts, like a 4-star hotel in Midtown for only $132 a night, consumers can now travel to New York on a dime and use their hard earned cash to experience all of the holiday treats the city has to offer.

Hotwire also has incredible hotel deals in Chicago. Enjoy world-class shopping on the Magnificent Mile and indulge in exquisite dining in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood while staying at a 4.5-star hotel for only $109 a night or a 4-star for $89 per night when booking through Hotwire.

For travelers who want more 'adventure' during their holidays, Hotwire has rarely seen discounts of up to 54 percent off retail prices in snowy locales. Now dare devil travelers can board or ski their hearts out with Hotwire's help.

Here's a selection of ski resort deals recently booked on Hotwire, researched on December 2, 2008*:

-- Colorado: A 4-star in Vail from $109; in Aspen, Hotwire has a 4-star
from $66 and a 4.5-star hotel from $199 (40 percent savings!)
-- Vermont: 3-star hotel in Burlington from $59
-- Utah: 4-star hotel in Park City from $105 and a 4-star hotel in Salt
Lake City from $73

Travel: A Gift that Spans Generations

(ARA) - Have you ever returned from a trip anxious to share your stories and pictures with family members, only to be disappointed as you’re going through them? It’s a common occurrence; photos don’t always capture the true essence of your experience.

So what’s the best way to truly share your travel excursions with family? Take them with you! In fact, intergenerational travel (grandparents taking their children and grandchildren on trips) has increased in recent years. More than 30 percent of grandmas have taken at least one trip with a grandchild, according to the Travel Industry Association of America. And those numbers are expected to climb, with a large increase coming from international travel.

Joan Wyer and Sherry Lund, both from Minnesota, are two such grandparents. They’ve taken family members to domestic and international destinations alike and say it’s a wonderful, fun and enlightening way to build relationships.

“I could travel alone or with friends,” says Wyer. “But I’d much rather share these memories with my family.” Wyer has taken her family of 18 (four children, their spouses and nine grandchildren) on three excursions in the last several years including Alaska, the Sea of Cortez (Mexico) and the Galapagos Islands.

“There is no better way to build deep relationships than by traveling together,” says Wyer. “There are definitely bonding moments as you experience unique places and people away from the day-to-day routine of home.”

Lund couldn’t agree more. “Traveling with my grandchildren has given us a gift – a special bond of memories that only we share, no one else.” Lund has started a family tradition with her grandchildren. When they reach 10 years of age, she takes them on a unique trip that helps broaden their world view. To date, she’s shared the Galapagos Islands with her granddaughter Laurie and Peru with granddaughter Libby.

Both Wyer and Lund sought guidance from Travel Beyond, a 30-year-old international travel consultancy in Wayzata, Minn., to design their trips. The consultancy has invested more than 25,000 hours personally visiting and pre-screening destinations around the world. This first-hand knowledge was a big comfort to Wyer and Lund.

“Many of today’s baby boomers want an experience that doesn’t involve a tour bus and hoards of people,” says Craig Beal, chief executive officer of Travel Beyond. “They want to get out and explore new destinations in a way that’s unique to them. That’s why we agonize over the details and customize every aspect of their travel.”

According to Beal, several international destinations have emerged as excellent options for intergenerational travel.

Three to 10 Day Tours – Experience the Uniqueness of Canada
* Observe the polar bears in Churchill
* Ride through the Canadian Rockies on the Rocky Mountaineer
* Visit the 400-year-old city of Old Quebec

Five to 15 Day Tours – Enjoy the Diversity of South America
* Explore the ancient Incan ruins of Machu Picchu, Peru
* Visit the Galapagos Islands, known for its impact on Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection
* Star gaze through a private observatory in the Atacama Desert of Chile
* Experience ‘March of the Penguins’ in real life in Antarctica

10 to 20 Day Tours – Discover the Wild Side of Africa
* Interact with one of Africa's oldest tribes (Himba) and see the largest collection of ship wrecks in the world in Namibia
* Seek out the “Big Five” (lions, leopards, elephants, cape buffalo, rhinos) on a safari through Botswana
* View the impressive Victoria Falls in Zambia, one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World

“Many of the trips I’ve taken through Travel Beyond are experiences of a lifetime,” continues Lund. “I’m fortunate to give those experiences to my grandchildren as a special gift. Walking among the iguanas, seeing birds and animals that are unique to that location and exposing them to parts of the world they’ve never heard of before. Those are cherished gifts any grandparent would love to give.”

Las Vegas Tops List as Most Popular U.S. Destination as Orbitz Looks Back at Travel Trends in 2008

T2F Note: Congrats to Atlanta for making the top 10. Of course, we've always been attracted to the city.

/PRNewswire/ -- As 2008 draws to a close, Orbitz (http://www.orbitz.com/), a leading online travel site, takes a retrospective look back with its latest Insider Index to offer insight into when and where Americans spent their travel dollars this year.

"By looking back at travel data in 2008, we can identify trends that will help consumers make smart decision in travel planning for the year ahead," said Jeanenne Tornatore, public relations director for Orbitz Worldwide. "For example, those who want to travel when they can find bargains should look to the slower travel periods when destinations have fewer crowds."

Busiest Travel Weeks

While last year (2007), the July 4th week topped the Orbitz list of busiest travel weeks, Thanksgiving has historically been the busiest travel period of the year, and 2008 was no exception. For travelers looking to avoid the long lines at the airport, the slowest travel week of the year is still upon us, with the week of December 29 coming in as the least busy travel week of 2008.

The busiest travel weeks of 2008(1) were:

1. Thanksgiving
2. July 4th
3. Christmas
4. Memorial Day
5. Third week of March

With the long-weekends becoming an easy way to escape for more and more Americans, the Index also examines where these weekenders spent their time and travel dollars in 2008. The Orbitz Index looked at travel over a four-day period for Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

Most Popular Airfare Routes for 2008

With so much volatility in the airline industry in 2008, from rising gas prices to decreasing capacity, the fluctuating price of airfares was a focus of much discussion among consumers. This retrospective Orbitz Index reveals the average prices travelers actually paid for airfares on Orbitz.com for some of the most popular flight routes in 2008, ranging from $156 to $404.

In June, Orbitz announced the launch of a new service, Orbitz Price Assurance, created to help ease travelers' concerns about the fluctuating prices of airfares. With Orbitz Price Assurance, if the price drops for a plane ticket booked on Orbitz.com and another customer subsequently books the same airline ticket on Orbitz.com for less, Orbitz will automatically send travelers a cash refund for the difference.
